Convicted felon gets into fight with gas attendant over a buck and change -- put back behind bars
DAYTONA BEACH -- A convicted felon is back in jail after brawling with a convenience store clerk Thursday night over $1.03 worth of gas, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
The incident, which took place at about 10:45 p.m. at a Circle K on South Nova Road near Daytona Beach, was witnessed by a customer who called 911 to report the altercation.
"We just pulled up and he grabbed one of the car squeegees and went after the guy working in the store," the witness told a Volusia
County Sheriff's Office dispatcher. "I think he was screaming about his money or something."

Motorcycle mogul Rossmeyer's 'loss community's loss'
.jpg)
NSBNEWS.net photo by Sera Frederick. The nameplate for Bruce Rossmeyer's New Smyrna Harley-Davidson lights up the entranceway to the motorcycle shop on State Road 44 at night.
When my wife and I drove up to Bruce Rossmeyer's Harley-Davidson on State Road 44 in New Smyrna Beach to take a photo of his business as part of the news on his untimely death, I couldn't help but notice that the "D" in Davidson was flickering among the partially burnt-out lighting. At that moment, I closed my eyes and said a prayer for his family.
New Smyrna Beach Mayor Sally Mackay said it best in describing the Harley-Davidson motorcycle mogul's "loss as New Smyrna Beach's loss."

Mighty Metro irrelevant
The Daytona Beach News-Journal is the classic case of why daily metro newspapers are on their way out. The News-Journal is boring, reactive and filled with inane government meeting coverage and press-release generated cop news. This is the 21st century and people want their news now.
Thankfully, we have choices in Southeast Volusia. There's NSBNEWS.net with daily around the clock online coverage, the weekly print Observer newspaper (with a web version), NSBShadow.com and WSBB radio.

Jana Calisse Grant, 47, of New Smyrna Beach, accused in the fatal hit-and-run accident that left a 42-year-old Port Orange man dead on the side of the road on the North Causeway, has bonded out of jail. She met a friend at her Canal Street salon soon after the fatal crash instead of rendering help, according to New Smyrna Beach police investigators who carried out an exhaustive investigation that led to her arrest eight months after Glenn Scott Gagnon was left to die on the side of the North Causeway.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Jana Calisse Grant, the 47-year-old salon owner accused of striking a pedestrian and leaving him to die and then washing his blood off her vehicle at a nearby car wash, avoided a first appearance before a judge Saturday at the Volusia Branch Jail by making bail.
