Sherriff's Office and Deltona Fire Department team up for charity softball game to benefit two fallen members

DELTONA -- One was a well-known school crossing guard supervisor for the Volusia County Sheriff's Office who became the victim of a murder-suicide that orphaned her four children. The other was a popular Deltona Fire Department captain who lost his battle with advanced stage cancer, leaving his widow to care for the young grandchild that the couple was raising.

Holly Hill Christmas festivities Friday and Saturday

HOLLY HILL -- Fan Exclusive! Come and hear recording artist Chris Via as he debuts his new Christmas EP - "Christmas With You" - at the Holly Hill Christmas Parade tree-lighting ceremony, 5:30 p.m. Friday on the front steps of City Hall, 1065 Ridgewood Ave.

Via will be in the 50th annual Christmas Parade that starts at 10 a.m. that day, No. 61 entry, from 14th Street to 10th street on U.S. 1.

Cudas enjoying great football season

As the New Smyrna Barracudas go into their playoff schedule no one can deny that the players, coaches, parents and fans are getting their reward for sticking it out through thick and thin. This year’s success comes at the end of some pretty tough times. No matter how the playoffs go, this season has been a great success.

All sports are educational especially football at the high school level. This year’s seniors have received a thorough education that will stand them in good stead for the rest of their lives. So you should ask, ”What did they learn?”
