EDGEWATER -- A week ago Saturday, I did my Thanksgiving Shopping. Since Saturday is my usual day for all the shopping for the house the pups just watched me leave. The look on their faces sometimes makes me wonder just what do they do when I am not home.

While I would want to believe that every person in this country wants to thank each and every Vet who has served or is still serving. Miakoda and Walela, would like to thank the four-legged vets. Dogs also go to war. They help in various ways and seem to be forgotten when all is over.

EDGEWATER -- Birthdays are usually something of a great time. When it is children, they are excited for their "special" day. As you get older your attitude can change on that. I am pretty sure that my celebrating my pups birthday's is more for me than them. On July 1, 2004, Miakoda was born. Looking back now to that date, I realize how truly blessed I am to have such a loving animal, I have nicknamed "Koda."

EDGEWATER -- September 11, 2001, will forever be for those who were there -- in New York City and at the Pantagon -- the most tragic day in their lives. That goes without saying. For the rest of us, we watched TV is disbelief as our phones rang constantly. 

Recently I heard from my cousin in Kentucky that he was going to drive down and spend the day with us here in Edgewater. Of course, I was very excited. I hadn't seen him in a few years so the thought of spending a day with him was great. I truly didn't expect the pups to remember him since his last visit was also just a day.

Since it is Pet Appreciation Week (June 5-11), I cannot think of a better thing to write about. Whenever I take Koda and or Lela out, not only do I enjoy watching how much fun they have being out in public, but I also enjoy the stories I hear from other people about their favorite pet. It seems that no matter what is going on in your life, your pets are always there.

With Osama bin Laden's death, a new euphoria has erupted, but I wonder what will be the religious base behind the next attack? How many people will die a senseless death in the next attack because of how someone interprets their religion?

With the extra hours I have been putting in at work, the pups have been forced to find some unusual ways to entertain themselves. Lela took charge of the mother cat and five kittens we have by holding a vigil outside of the room that they are in.

Miakoda and I took a drive down to the New Smyrna Beach Art Fiesta weekend craft fair on Satureday at Old Fort Park and the weather was perfect for the day. Once we found a parking spot we walked over to the fair and it was very crowded.

This winter has been a harsh one for all of the two legged in Florida. Koda and Lela seemed to have mixed emotions. For the most part they enjoyed the cooler weather, the icy wind blowing through their fur and the cooler temperatures giving them the feeling that they might have moved from Florida to the Arctic.
