NSB motorcyclist struck and killed while pushing stalled motorcycle in Samsula
SAMSULA -- A New Smyrna Beach biker was killed when he was struck by a young motorist while pushing his stalled motorcycle on the northbound edge of the road on Samsula Drive Thursday night, the Florida Highway Patrol and Volusia County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
John Turner, 59, was killed instantly in the 10:30 accident on Samsula, near Lettuce Lane, authorities said.
Jamie Sue Parker, 29, of Jacksonville Beach, who was driving a Nissan, was uninjured. Parker's driving license was reported suspended for failure to pay fines, but no immediate charges were levied against her in the fatal crash while an investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol continues.
According to an initial deputie's report, Turner tried to get out of the way of the oncoming car that knocked both him and his motorcycle into a ditch where he was pronounced dead by responding law enforcement and paramedics.
