DAYTONA BEACH -- Sarah Palin will attend the Feb. 14 running of the Daytona 500, but as a fan and not as part of any pre-race program, officials at Daytona International Speedway announced Saturday to local media.

Palin, the former vice presidential running mate of John McCain and former governor of Alaska who has a new gig on the Fox News Channel has requested credentials to see NASCAR's signature Sprint Cup race, the 200-lap Daytona 500, featuring the likes of Jimmy Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon.

The day after the race, Palin is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the annual Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce dinner, which was booked months earlier.
