About the Blogger
Pat Miller, who is married and lives in Edgewater, is the proud owner of two wolf dogs, Miakoda and Walela. Her Wolf Dogs are Arctic Tundra, Timber Wolf and McKenzie Valley Wolf with a little bit of Malamute thrown in for fun. Miakoda, a male, is nearly 5 years old. Walela, a female, is 4. They have been spayed and or neutered. Living with Wolf Dogs is an experience with a major learning curve. They are highly intelligent and have the ability to think things through. This has gotten the Millers into some unique situations that she will share with you in her blog at NSBNEWS.net.

A man's best friend is a dog named 'Charley'
Every Once in a while, Koda and Lela get that unique opportunity to understand just how great their life is. Recently the pups visited the Edgewater Animal Shelter where they found out about a Chow Mix dog that the animal control officers picked up. This poor dog was thrown out like yesterday's trash.

The larger photo to the left, shows Charley, loaded with grease and missing fur.
Thanks to someone donating money for him we are trying to get him back in shape.
While The pups were not too cooperative in the photo shoot, trying to get three animals to stand still at the same time is really really hard.
But the pups were also moved by the situation of this animal.
He was covered in grease, his fur was missing in several spots due to a heavy flea Infestation and he had tapeworm and an ear infection.
This dog got a reprieve by a caring person who put out money to help with his medical costs. Only this dog knows for sure what he has been through but, every single caring person at the Shelter has been working very hard to make his life better.
Charley is a gentle creature with soft brown eyes.
When he first arrived, Charley he could barely walk, his back bone is crooked and tail wagging was something that was long gone. He was given a couple baths with some special shampoo for his skin, he was treated for the tapeworm, and his ear infection. He has been at the shelter now for a few weeks, and he seems to believe he is at the Hilton Hotel.
He was able to be warm during the freeze, he is getting food every day and he is being treated for his problems. He is getting some love and attention and warm clean blankets every day. So Many Shelters get such a bad rap for the animals being kenneled, but this Chow Mix, now called Charley couldn't be happier.
He is now wagging his tail, he is standing up and walking, he is comfortable and cozy on his clean blankets and now the employees of the shelter are trying to find someone who will give this wonderful dog a home. Charley may not have a lot of years left in his life but the employees are hoping that there is one person out there that will think that this wonderful dog deserves better than what he has been given.
Koda and Lela came home from the shelter, riding in their truck, and stepping into their warm home and sleeping on their bed in their bedroom with a different view. They were able to see that not every animal is treated well.
Something else that Koda and Lela noticed was how happy the dogs in the shelter were. The employees spend a lot of time with the dogs. They let them run in their newly cemented outdoor kennels so they get the exercise they need. They make the time to play with the dogs so that they continue to want to be around people. They observe each animal and make notes as to what each dog does and doesn't like. They cry tears of joy when a dog gets adopted and goes to a new forever home. They worry over a sick dog and even volunteer extra time to take care of them.
While the Edgewater Animal Shelter is not a large facility, it is a very clean place for animals. It has a lot of volunteers who show up daily to help clean cages and kennels. The employees watch the animals closely and if one should get sick or come in sick, they are quick to separate that animal from the others to keep the illness down.
Every person who either works or volunteers there work as a team to get the jobs done and done right. Every employee posts the animals to different sites in the hopes of helping to get the animals homes. They work the front desk, they do laundry, they feed and clean and take that extra time with a person trying to find that perfect animal companion.
I am proud to say that I am now a part of this team and I hope that I can do as good a job as everyone else who works there.
Koda and Lela don't mind my going to work, they are happy to see me come back home. They seem to know that they have a great life and are happy to share me with other animals.
If you would like to help Charley by either adopting him or donating to his medical needs please contact the Edgewater Animal Shelter at 605 Mango Tree Drive, Edgewater, FL 32132 or you can call (386) 424-2442 Their Animals are posted on Craigs List, Facebook and there is a You Tube Video of the Edgewater Animal Shelter.
