Taxpayers thrown under the bus for benefit of the Anglers Club
City Commissioner Judy Reiker threw the taxpayers under the bus with her vote to keep the Anglers Club lease in place. I also cringed when she said "A deal is a deal is a deal." I voted for Reiker and so did my husband. I will make sure she is never re-elected!
These "gentlemen" as Reiker referred to the Anglers, are certainly "in my opinion," not gentlemen. They are self-serving ego maniacs that feel they deserve a free ride.
How sad.
They are supposedly the pillars of this community? I also was disgusted when Commissioner Jack Grasty said, "We need to leave them alone, they are part of our history."
Commissioner James Hathaway was on the middle of the fence as usual.
Mayor Adam Barringer is an angler. Where was Adam? He hid.
We have a commission with no backbone. They are losers for the taxpayers.
The discussion was about city-owned property, and leases. We as taxpayers need these resolved and need these properties put back on the tax roll. I refuse to continue to pay for this incompetence. The "ANGLERS" issue has been temporarily put on the back burner, but do not hold your breath, it will resurface again and again until it is rectified and brought into the 2010 limelight.
I do not care what happened in 1946, get real, it is today, and we are over your free ride "gentlemen."
Editor's Note: The City Commission voted 4-0 Tuesday with Mayor Adam Barringer, an acknowledged member of the Anglers Club, abstaining to keep the longstanding Anglers Club lease intact instead of selling waterfront property outriight that the anglers sit on or taking them to court in an effort to invalidate the lease.

A Deal Is A Deal
By now Commissioner Reiker is sorry she said anything. Sad thing is that it takes two to make a deal. Each party makes promises. Yes, the City promised the Angler's a lease. But no one mentioned what the Angler's promised in return. The minutes of that Commission meeting from long ago are available. The 'Club' promised public benefits, such as to promote the local sport fishing industry in our town. The have slowly reneged on their promise and are now just a private club for the benefit of 90 or so citizens.
Disgusted
Disgusted with Reiker? Hey, it was 4-0... Even Lynnie spoke kindly of the Anglers. NO ONE spoke against them at the meeting, not a single citizen got up to speak against the decision.
NO MOTION was even made.
If you'd been there, you would have seen that no one cares. Slick Wille, NegNag Wilson and you all were MIA.
