NSBNEWS.net updating obituary and milestones policies
Obituaries are an important part of local news coverage, but without the financial support of funeral homes, they are too time consuming, labor intensive and expensive to get individual listings and verify them. With that said, NSBNEWS.net is asking local funeral homes to follow the lead of the Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, which has all of its obituaries listed in full detail with NSBNEWS.net through an annual advertising contract. NSBNEWS.net does not charge families or other loved ones of a deceased person for obituary listings provided by Settle-Wilder. And we will keep that free for those whose funeral homes advertise with us as well. Each listing includes a color photo, also free.
It should be noted that the print media not only charges the funeral homes for their ads, but also charges the loved ones of those who have died to have full obituary listings. NSBNEWS.net will not do the latter. We will run the complete obituary listing provided by the funeral home exactly as the loved ones of a deceased person wants the listing worded. These obituaries are permanently archived on NSBNEwS.net and available on the World Wide Web.
Our annual advertising rate of $600 for a funeral home is more than reasonable and far less than the funeral homes will find with print media. Each listed obituary also includes a clickable ad from the funeral home that will take you directly to its website.
Our milestone section on the Community page also includes birth announcements and marriage licenses and a Volusia County Jail Docket that is limited to Southeast Volusia residents.
While NSBNEWS.net does not have the financial resources of a daily print newspaper, it is competitive in providing news of record, including daily police reports from the New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater police departments as well as the Sheriff's District 5 office on our Community page, and lawsuit filings, building permits, property deed listings and foreclosure listings from the Volusia courts on our Real Estate page.
In a matter of weeks, NSBNEWS.net will undergo another design upgrade to make it even easier to navigate the site.
