John Moranto, 68, head coach of the Mainland High School football team and a city resident, was charged with solicitation to commit prostitution, during a Labor Day weekend crackdown on prostitution by Daytona Beach police.

DAYTONA BEACH -- Four people have been arrested this Labor-Day weekend on prostitution-related charges in response to complaints by merchants and residents alike of the illicit activity in various parts of the city, a police spokesman said. Among the four was 68-year-old John Moranto, head coach of the Mainland High School football team and a city resident, who was charged with solicitation to commit prostitution.

In response to those complaints and in an attempt to curb street-level prostitution, the Daytona Beach Police Department conducted a prostitution operation, using an undercover officer posing as a prostitute.

As a a result of the operation, Moranto and the following three men were arrested and transported to the Volusia Couty Branch Jail, according to agency spokesman Jimmy Flynt:

  • Thomas Edward Chapp, 49, of Yulee, charged with solicitation to commit prostitution.
  • Brian Carl Pierre, 26, of Daytona Beach, charged with sale and delivery of marijuana under 20 grams.
  • Christopher Reddick 41, of Daytona Beach, charged with solicitation to commit prostitution.
