Cudas play at Seabreeze on Friday

NSB FOOTBALL

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Cudas football team (1-0) travels to Ormond Beach Friday to play Seabreeze. The game starts at 7 p.m.

The Cudas opened the 2010 season last Friday with a 21-0 win on the road against Pine Ridge in Deltona. Pine Ridge never got its offense rolling when it counted, with two costly turnovers, including a fumble on the Cudas' goal line in the second half.

Following a 14-0 first half lead, New Smyrna Beach added another score and relied on its defense to preserve the shutout.

This is head coach Lance Jenkins first season with the Cudas with the retirement of Rocky Yocam following the 2009 campaign that saw the Cudas go 8-5 and become the District 13-4A champions.

Jenkins, 40, was on the Cudas' football staff in the late 1990s under then-head coach Gerald Odom, including the 1997 team rthat went 12-1 and made it all the way to the state semi finals.
