Request for $42,000 from CRA for Christmas lights on Flagler Avenue inappropriate

I am extremely upset that the "Merchants of Flagler" are going after CRA dollars for new Christmas decorations, $42,000 to be precise. I am a merchant there. I guess the philosophy is if there is money there, let us "grab it." I feel that in these economic times, Community Redevelopment Agency money should be spent on infrastructure and blighted areas. That is my interpretation of their goals and purpose. I exposed the $9,000 artificial Christmas tree purchase on Canal, purchased with CRA monies, and money spent on X-mas decorations on Flagler Avenue now is a slap in the face for all taxpayeres. In these tough economic times, I feel that we as merchants are ending a negative message to our community by spending $42,000 on decorations, as they may have very little money to spend for Christmas, because many have lost their jobs and maybe their homes as well. This is just my opinion and is certainly open for debate and discussion.
