Passenger traffic up 27% in December at Daytona Beach International Airport

DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 27 percent in December compared to the same time in 2009.
Airport officials reported 35,955 passengers traveled through the county-operated airport compared with 28,316 in December 2009, according to Airport Director Rick Karl. The number of passengers overall last year was 498,978, an increase of 18 percent over 2009.
“The strong traffic performance in December continued a consistent upward trend in passengers for the entire year,” Airport Director Rick Kar saidl. “During 2010 Delta Air Lines and U.S Airways substantially increased the number of seats over the prior year and each achieved strong passenger loads with the added capacity.”
The average on-board passenger load for 2010 was 89 percent. This compares to the 86 percent load factor in 2009.
Passenger traffic growth is expected to continue this year with Delta and U.S Airways both scheduling larger aircraft with more available seats than the prior year during February, March and April.
In March, Delta has scheduled five daily Boeing 757 round trips to Atlanta. Delta’s use of the 183-passenger Boeing 757 for all of March is the most capacity Delta ever has offered for any month during its 31 years at Daytona Beach, Karl pointed out.
“We continue to be thrilled with the increased capacity and performance of Delta and U.S Airways.” Karl said. “We are looking forward to 2011 being another great year for Daytona Beach International Airport”.
