Hey animal lovers: It's 'Pet Appreciation Week'

community bloggers / Pat Miller of Edgewater

Since it is Pet Appreciation Week (June 5-11), I cannot think of a better thing to write about. Whenever I take Koda and or Lela out, not only do I enjoy watching how much fun they have being out in public, but I also enjoy the stories I hear from other people about their favorite pet. It seems that no matter what is going on in your life, your pets are always there.

Photos by Pat Miller / Lela hugs Cal Miller and Koda sits pretty in the family room.

So while I might giggle a little and smile at some people and how they treat their pets, I also figure it's much better than just leaving them alone outside all the time.

With my wolf dogs, Koda is my healer. When you're either sad or crying, the dog is right there with you giving you its head to lean on. If your in pain he stays right by your side and makes sure that you don't fall.

Lela is my cheerful girl. To her life is great, it is full of adventure. She loves to watch the squirrels, and birds. She finds turtles fascinating.

Of course, running water, wind, or other animals are fascinating. She loves to jump into puddles of water. She also has a smile on her face for everyone. Koda feels he has a special bond with other animals and when we were taking care of a scared kitten he thought that singing to her would help.

It really didn't she was terrified of him. His feelings were hurt over this. He does pride himself on soothing crying babies. When we go to public places and he hears a baby crying he will walk over and put his huge hairy face right at the baby. I don't know why but it always gets to the babies to laugh.

I would think that every person has a special memory of a pet that got them through some times.

People will smile when they see a dog playing with children, or running in the water at the beach. When you pass a car and a dog has his or her head stuck out the window enjoying the breeze. You can even smile when you see someone sharing their lunch with their dog.

So while I think my Wolf dogs are the best animals in the world, that is my personal opinion. I am sure that those who read this have their own completely awesome memory of a pet.

So since this is Pet Appreciation Week take time to show your pet just how much you appreciate having them in your life.
