Thanksgiving with the pups a real joy

EDGEWATER -- A week ago Saturday, I did my Thanksgiving Shopping. Since Saturday is my usual day for all the shopping for the house the pups just watched me leave. The look on their faces sometimes makes me wonder just what do they do when I am not home.

They did notice that the truck came back with a lot more groceries than usual. Now I ask you have you ever tried to hide a Turkey from a Wolf Dog? Let alone two? The pups examine every bag that I bring in and because of this I was holding off on the turkey.

They really are not that easy to hide you know. Koda was the first to notice the Turkey. He quickly ran to the turkey and was sniffing it as I was trying to walk in. He was paying very close attention to which shelf the Turkey was put on. The rest of the day was spent watching Koda try to get into the refridgerator. That was when the vigil started with the refrigerator watch.

Every time we opened the fridge for anything, one of the pups was there to make sure that the big bird was still there. Unfortunately for them, they never even got to taste the turkey. My vet would agree that neither one needs anything more added to their diet.

Fortunately, we have been having some very nice weather so that made it much easier to work on the dinner. I put the pups out in their kennel to play and enjoy the weather so I could actually cook without extra noses in everything that I did.

This Thanksgiving our meal was a little later than everyone else's because I first had to take care of the cats at the Edgewater shelter. Even though the shelter was closed, we still needed to go in and feed and clean their cages. I din't mind because the cats never complain. Koda and Lela don't mind as long as I come home smelling of cats and not dogs.

With everything that is going on in the world, it can sometimes be hard to find something to be thankful for right now. We feel that we have so much, between beautiful children and grandchildren, our wonderful wolf dogs and two crazy cats, and that my husband's parents are still going strong. We truly cannot complain.

Our pups think that they have plenty to be thankful for. Beaches to run on, squirrels to chase, snakes to protect us from, the occasional armadillo, raccoon, otter and bear. We have a roof over our heads and good friends, Benny and Marie.

There is no way we could ever forget Benny and Marie because of them we have Miakoda and Walela.  Our pups had their own Thanksgiving and we hope and pray that everyone else had a wonderful Thanksgiving and some great memories. Beside's Koda and Lela know that now Thanksgiving is over, mom will put up the Christmas tree with the wolf train and the singing stuffed animals that Lela so loves.

Howls.

Her Wolf Dogs are Arctic Tundra, Timber Wolf and McKenzie Valley Wolf with a little bit of Malamute thrown in for fun. Miakoda, a male, is nearly 5 years old. Walela, a female, is 4. They have been spayed and or neutered. Living with Wolf Dogs is an experience with a major learning curve. They are highly intelligent and have the ability to think things through. This has gotten the Millers into some unique situations that she will share with you in her blog at NSBNEWS.net.
