Blood drive Friday in Deltona; prizes awarded to donors

DELTONA -- The city is sponsoring a blood drive, “Guns N’ Hoses: Law Enforcement vs. Firefighters” for Florida’s Blood Center’s from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday. Their mobile collection unit will be in the parking lot at City Hall, 2345 Providence Blvd.

Wendi Jackson, Deltona's spokeswoman, told NSBNews.net that those giving blood will receive a free movie ticket, a week’s free trial to any Volusia County YMCA, a coupon for buy- one-get-one-free breakfast at Friendly’s in Daytona Beach, a gift card for $25 golf with cart games at the DeBary Golf and Country Club and a free “Guns N’ Hoses T-shirt."

Giving blood is simple and easy. The entire procedure, from completing a short medical history to drawing the blood and resting afterward with refreshments, takes less than an hour. Blood donation is safe and painless and healthy people can donate every eight weeks.

To donate, you must be in good health, be 18 years of age or older, weigh at least 102 pounds and bring a photo identification card. Those 16 and 17 may give blood with parental consent.
