Vehicle registration renewal fees to increase Sept. 1

DELAND -- The State of Florida will increase vehicle registration fees Sept. 1, but residents whose birthdays are before Dec. 1 can beat the rate increase by renewing early, says Pat Kuehn, a Volusia County spokeswoman.

Residents whose birthdays are:
● on or before Aug. 31 can renew at the current rate by Aug. 31;
● in September can renew early at the current rate by Aug. 31;
● in October can renew early at the current rate between July 1 and Aug. 31; or
● in November can renew early at the current rate between Aug. 1 and 31.

Residents can save additional money by renewing for two years.

Under the new fee schedule, established by the Florida Legislature, automobile registration renewals will increase by $18 to $25 depending on the vehicle’s type and weight. A complete list of fee increases is available at the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles web site, www.flhsmv.gov/NewFees.htm.

This is the first increase of some of the more common fees since the 1980s.

Vehicle registration renewal can be done online at www.GoRenew.com or in person at any county or private tag office in Volusia County. The county’s Tag and Title offices are open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at:

# the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand;
# Daytona Beach Administration Center, 250 N. Beach
St., Daytona Beach;
# Orange City Administration Center, 2744 Enterprise Road, Orange City;
# New Smyrna Beach Finance Department, 111 Canal St., New Smyrna Beach.

Private tag offices are at 1100 Beville Road, Daytona Beach; and 2772-A Elkcam Blvd., Deltona.

Driver license renewals and title fees also will increase Sept. 1.
