Last time, we discussed some of the buyer beware difficulties purchasing a ticket to “Tribute” or “Legend Band” concerts. What you may not know or realize is the copyright and/or ownership rights belong to specific companies or individuals. For example: Who owns the “Benny Goodman” band? Rightfully, it is the Benny Goodman family or his company. What damage is done to the revenue due do the company when a band is travelling for large fees as a “Tribute to Benny Goodman” and no money is paid to the estate? The answer is big bucks.

Let me give you a quick music lesson. There are bands and singers that do only original material.There are bands, singers and groups that do covers. A cover band will play different music from all different styles of bands but not emulate them exactly. Then - there are Tribute or Legends acts.
